All-In-One Cloth Diapers

We love all-in-one cloth diapers!

They are the most similar to the classic disposable-style diaper that most people use. All of the pieces are attached, and all you have to do is button the all-in-one cloth diaper on and call it good. When it’s soiled, place it in your diaper pail – wash, rinse, dry, repeat.

I know you are wondering where the poop goes, don’t worry I’ll tell you. But let’s start with the basics of the all-in-one cloth diapers.

What do all-in-one cloth diapers look like?

All-in-one cloth diapers are waterproof on the outside and absorbent on the inside. This means that when Theo is out playing with the water hose in only his diaper, the outside of the diaper may feel damp from plopping down in puddles, but the inside is actually dry. Fascinating.

It works the other way, too. When the inside of Theo’s diaper is wet or dirty, the outside is still dry!

Fun fact: We have never had a poop blowout in a cloth diaper.

Are there sizes for all-in-one cloth diapers?

Yes! However, the sizing will depend on what brand you buy. I’ll explain the sizing for the ones that we use and love. If you explore other brands, make sure to check their sizing charts.

Thirsties brand

• Newborn size: 5-14 pounds or 0-3 months
• One size: 8-40 pounds or 0-36 months

Grovia brand

• Newborn size: 5-12 pounds (We used Grovia newborn all-in-one cloth diapers until he outgrew them.)

How do you clean all-in-one cloth diapers?

This is always a concern for people, but I am here to put your worries to rest!

Poop Situations

If you are parent, then you already know that until babies start eating solids, around 6 months of age or later, their poop is liquid. The diaper absorbs it like pee, and you simple wash, dry, repeat. Once they are eating solid food, things change… and quickly. Your washing machine will not have to face loaded poop diapers. You will simply put the solid poop in the toilet, flush it, and then proceed to wash, dry, repeat as usual.

We have a really cool trick that works amazingly well, no matter what size of poop we are gifted with.

There is such a thing as a diaper liner! We place the liner in the diaper, buckle it onto Theo, and when he does poop, the whole liner peels off (with the poop on top of it) and we simply drop it into the toilet and flush everything. There is no spraying, scraping, or gagging involved!

Washing Machine Instructions

When your diaper pail is full, simply buckle the diapers inside out and toss them into your washer. You will wash them on the heaviest duty cycle your washer offers! Turn the heat all the way up. And utilize your pre-soak or pre-wash feature on your washer.

This is also when I wash our reusable diaper pail liner. Just toss it in with the all-in-one cloth diapers, and everything gets washed together!

Dryer Instructions

You can choose to line dry your all-in-one cloth diapers, which we do regularly to bleach out any stains on our retractable clothesline in the backyard.

You can also dry them in your dryer, which I do most times. I use ‘timed dry’ for 1 hour and only 1 segment of heat.

What do you do with the diapers if you are not home?

We travel with a reusable wet bag (lots of cute colors) in the diaper bag at all times! Instead of finding a trashcan for the diapers, we simply toss them into the reusable wet bag and then transfer them to the diaper pail when we arrive home.

Where can you buy all-in-one cloth diapers?

You can start a diaper fund for all-in-one cloth diapers just as you would for disposable diapers. Amazon would be a great resource for that.

You can add them to your baby registry as well!

Check your local baby stores to see if they carry cloth diapers to try and support locally! Almost all of our diapers came from a local baby store (shout out to Colorado Baby!), and we created a diaper fund and had our family and friends contribute money towards the cost of the diapers. We essentially had all of our diapers and accessories paid for!

How long do cloth diapers last?

Cloth diapers will survive many children! So while there is an initial investment of buying all of your diapers up front, you will be able to pack them away and then use them again with the next baby where you will see an even greater return on the investment!
