In 2017, I began pursuing a vegan lifestyle with only the intention to create less demand for harming animals. I’m from Texas, talk about an awkward conversation to have with people. But… little did I know how quickly this ideology would extend to many (like all) faucets of our daily life including beauty products, cleaning products, clothing, entertainment, and more.
An occupational therapist by trade, I began to really make the connection with my patients between longevity and what is on our plate and put in/on our bodies. I was working full-time at an outpatient clinic as their neuro occupational therapist when I became pregnant. Then, COVID-19 happened in 2020.
I became a new mother in July 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, and I learned to see the world through a different lens entirely. I have a son, Theodore Wilder, who is the most epic thing Eric and I have ever done. My views are rose-colored with the joys of motherhood and often temporarily darkened with the burden that it entails. Motherhood is raw, and I prefer to honor it by discussing the beauty and challenges of it honestly and intimately. As we embark on toddlerhood, I’ll kindly ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers because.. phew. Little people are their own special breed of human.
When my son was born, I decided to switch departments at work and reduce my work load at the hospital. So, during the week when I’m writing these blog posts and brainstorming ideas, I am often sitting in the rocker .. in my sons darkened room .. holding him close for naps that he couldn’t settle for and being grateful for the opportunity to be there with him and here with you. Sharing what I think I know and hoping to learn from others. If you are a mother, know that I am in the throes of it with you. There is one thing I know for sure, and that is we are all doing the best we can.
I am married to a handsome, rugged, dark, artsy, creative, hunky, dreamboat man- Eric. He shows up for me and Theodore every day. He is outstanding. Don’t tell him I said that. We live on the Western slope of the Rockies in the colorful state of Colorado. Hiking, camping, exploring, loving on horses, and being outside are our passions as a family. We have 2 large dogs and a gentle, older horse that we hope to raise our little ones on and with.
