- Pigs, in their natural state, are actually very clean animals. You likely know of someone who has a pig as a pet, and that pig likely lives in the house and uses the outdoors like a dog or a litter box like a cat.
- “Pigs like to chase each other, run around, play fight and wrestle and push balls around with their noses, all the while grunting and squeaking (which is piggy laughter). - Pigs are fed a cocktail of antibiotics to prevent them from getting sick because they are so genetically altered that they are vulnerable to disease.
- Antibiotics give their flesh the pink hue that people think is appetizing.
- Pigs are slaughtered as babies, between 3-6 months old.
- Mother pigs will be allowed to live longer in a cycle of pregnancy, birth, and nursing without enough room to take 1 step or enough room to turn her head to look at her babies.
- Mother pigs will lose her babies around 20 days old to the meat industry. Mother pigs are highly maternal and intelligent. This cycle of pregnancy and birth is highly distressing for her each time she loses her babies, much like a human would feel. She would develop strong bonds with her babies in the natural world.
- Eventually, mother pigs will die in a slaughterhouse when her body is spent from pregnancy, birth, and nursing. Humans will eat her flesh, and the flesh of her babies.
- Pigs raised in factory farms will never enjoy play, social bonding, cleanliness, or physical affection with other pigs.
- “…piglets will be castrated without anesthesia, have their tails chopped off and their teeth pulled out and will never know the protective love of their mothers.”
